Year 2008 was the year of small budget movies with different subject and storylines. The trend started with 'Jannat' followed by 'Aamir', 'A Wednesday', 'Rock On', 'Welcome to Sajjanpur', 'Oye Lucky Lucky Oye'. They drew in the audience on basis of a varied story line and content. Even horror flicks, Vikaram Bhatt's '1920' and Ram Gopal Varma's 'Phoonk' rated satisfactory. According to performance wise following are the top 5 small budget movies:
