All roads led to Nehru Park in the Capital on Sunday morning – the venue for the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon in which over 25,000 people participated.

The distance for the run varied for different categories. While for the half marathon the athletes were expected to run for 21 kilometers, for others it varied from four to seven kilometers. And needless to say everyone was thoroughly excited.

Year after year more and more people have been participating in such events transcending barriers of caste and community.

Even Bollywood couldn't remain untouched by the marathon fever. Actor Saif Ali Khan was present with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor.

"We have such rich food and we love to eat as Indians but it is also a wonderful thing that we are becoming health conscious,” Saif said.

Actor Ajay Devgan was also seen with wife and actor Kajol. “It's actually not about running. It's about being together and you need an excuse. So running is an excuse,” he said.

While there were other motivating factors as well. Actor Rahul Bose said, “It gives you a chance to run for a cause. You are running to support HIV or to fight oppression against women."

While the driving force to participate in the marathon may be different for different people, one message that is sent across in events like these is that collective spirit and common purpose binds people better than any ideology.
