‘Britney Spears’ is a man named Derrick Barry!

Pop princess Britney Spears’ impersonator is not an ordinary look-alike, for it happens to be a male by the name of Derrick Barry.

Barry has made quite a good impression in the States with his rock-hard abs and razor-sharp cheekbones.

His sleek physique is so chic that it has America's Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff asking for more during filming for the hit show.

The Spears double, who has imitated the Toxic singer for five years, wore a schoolgirl outfit and danced to hit 90s tune ‘Baby One More Time’ in a bid to secure a place in the series finale.

Hasselhoff, who sat on the panel alongside Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan, was really caught up with the by the eye-popping performance.

"I'm questioning my sexuality," the Sun quoted the former Baywatch star as saying.

When questioned whether there would be room for two Spears, Barry was of the opinion that a male counterpart would be welcomed.

"There may be people or critics that don't approve of what I do, and they may not approve of her, but I'm here because she is so talented,” Barry said.

"Its make or break time. I think the world is ready to see that male impersonation is a true art form," he added.

Akshay Kumar is the biggest metrosexual star: Rocky S

Designer Rocky S has clothed Bollywood star Akshay Kumar for eight long years and says the actor is the most stylish and metro sexual man around.

"I have worked with Akshay for eight years. I really respect him for the way he has groomed himself. He has become one of the biggest metro sexual stars, most stylish fashion icon and he is so successful that I am proud of him. Just look from where he has come and where he has reached," says Rocky

However, he is no longer designing for Akshay.

"I started designing for Akshay in 1992. But I stopped working with him in 2000 because I had to move on. Also, both of us needed to take a break from each other," he added.

Unlike most other Indian designers who started their career by showcasing their collections at fashion shows, Rocky started his stint designing for Bollywood stars.

"I started 16 years back. At that time the only opportunity I got was in Bollywood. I think it was good for me, as it has created awareness about my brand. I have met a lot of actors who want to wear clothes designed by me."

Currently Rocky's clientele includes big names like John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty.

Rocky claimed: "The people I dress up are the best dressed. They are really great with clothes. They have a great body to carry off anything and they have a good style of their own."

Talking about the likings of his female clients, he added: "Shilpa likes deeper and rich Indian colours. She likes to wear emerald, she loves red and it really suits her. Even Bipasha likes red. Katrina likes pastel and lighter shades."

His most recent project was the hit flick Singh Is Kinng. He dressed Katrina in the film and is also working with her in Yuvraj. Apart from that he has designed Bipasha's clothes for Pankh and Kangana Ranaut's for Raaz - The Mystery Continues.

Rocky says designing for the actors is challenging.

"It is fun to work with actors and also challenging to make them look different every time. It is also a challenge for them to get into a character every time with different clothes and looks. A lot of hard work is required in Bollywood."

On an average, Rocky takes up almost four projects in a year.

The Mumbai-based designer entered mainstream fashion around 1997 to cater to the general public. He introduced the collection under his label Rocky S.

"When I started, fashion was not even taking off in a very big manner and I think it was after four to five years that I felt the need to do creative work for myself. That's when I started doing clothes that were more wearable and saleable.

"I came at the right time for mainstream fashion. Luckily, I have kept a very good balance between Bollywood and mainstream fashion till now," he said.

He is gearing up to participate in the upcoming Spring-Summer edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) to be held in the capital.

Bipasha Basu’s reality bytes

Small screen spells big money, and while a few big actors have given in to it, Bipasha Basu insists she isn’t going the tele way.

Not just yet! Bips’s appearance on reality shows for the promotion of her films, and her presence at the inaugural show of a dance reality show hosted by Raveena Tandon, sparked off rumours that Bipasha will be a judge for the dance show.

However, she clarifies, “The news of me being one of the judges with Raveena is simply not true. I was just a guest for their inaugural show and reports of me joining television are false.

Let this haseena enjoy her stint on the big screen. Anyway with Katrina and Kareena going on an anti-Bips march, the catfights in B-world are more entertaining than the saas-bahu sagas, or reality fights! So no one’s complaining.

Michael Jackson: 50 and not so fabulous

The gates of Michael Jackson's Neverland were locked shut this week. The funfair was idle and the animals from the private zoo were long gone.

As the former King of Pop was set to mark his 50th birthday on Friday it seemed fitting that the extravagant estate built as his homage to a fantasy of childhood remained empty - a site irrevocably tied to his financial and legal troubles, a symbol of a strange star's downfall.

This was meant to be Jackson's refuge - a place where he could play with children who were the age he was when he became a professional singer at 11. His goal seemed to be to recover that lost childhood. But it turned sour.

He was accused of two instances of child molestation at Neverland, in 1993 and 2003. Although he settled the first case without any admission of wrongdoing and was cleared of all charges after a media-saturated trial in the second case, the ordeals wreaked havoc on his already fragile psyche and turned him into a freak in the world's celebrity sideshow.

So there were no parties there this week, no stadium concerts like Madonna - the Queen of Pop who turned 50, 13 days before Jackson - and celebrated while on her wildly lucrative Sweet and Sticky world tour.

Like Madonna, Jackson turned the 1980s pop world on its head, selling more than 100 mn copies of the album Thriller in 1982, and introducing new dance moves, new sounds and a new level of mega-stardom.

Jackson has blamed his problems on the challenges of being a child star - one of nine musical siblings and the star of the Jackson Five long before he reached puberty. He had monster hits like ABC and I'll Be There with his siblings, but changed the entire industry with hits such as Thriller , Off the Wall, Billie Jean and Beat It.

These songs redefined the modern music video and forced MTV to start showing black performers, ensuring the success of the fledgling music station and paving the way for the acceptance of rap and hip- hop as mainstream musical styles.

But gradually Jackson created less hits and more tabloid headlines thanks to his odd behaviour and plastic surgery. His two- year marriage to Lisa-Marie Presley sparked intense speculation. Then he married his nurse Debbie Rowe, who became the mother of his two older children. The mother of his third child has never been identified.

Whereas once he was widely seen as the best dancer in the entertainment world, his most recent public appearance saw him confined to a wheelchair on a Las Vegas shopping trip with his three children Prince I, 11, Prince II, 6, and daughter Paris, 10.

He was wearing slippers and pyjamas, and the ever-present facial mask that either shields him from pollution or hides the damage that excessive plastic surgery has wrought on his face.

Talk about a comeback has been floating around for years, as Jackson juggles huge debts, he remains one of the most intriguing celebrities in the world. The most persistent rumours suggest a series of residency concerts at a Vegas venue.

Other reports involve the construction of a Thriller casino and entertainment venue, or Cirque du Soleil show based on his roster of hits. But deal after deal has reportedly fallen through because of Jackson's weak mental state and inability to function normally.

Jackson appeared briefly for a live performance at the World Music Awards in London in November 2006 for which he was reportedly paid $4 mn. But he was two-and-a-half hours late and only sang a few bars of his charity hit, We Are the World, before the sound was cut off and he was booed from the stage.

It was left to young star Chris Jones to wear a trademark red leather jacket, sing Thriller, and pay tribute to an artiste still regarded as one of the most influential music makers in the last 50 years.

Now animation versions of c, Rajesh Khanna and Big B's films

Earlier, we tied up with Motion Pixel Corporation with whom we're doing six animation films starting with Ek Haseena Ek Deewana. We also have an animation version of Sholay", signs off Mr Nandy. One of our most prolific sensitive and underrated director, Shakti Samanta, who made some of the most enduring and melodious mellow-dramas in the 1970s, is about to get an unusual boost up into the limelight.

Why these films from Shakti-da's astonishing oeuvre? Why not the other classics like Aradhana, Amanush and Kati Patang? It just uses the two main characters played by Koena and Fardeen as a spring board. But we'll also have re-mix version of the originals side by side.

What we're doing is something different. Mr Nandy denies that the animation version of the Fardeen Khan-Koena Moitra starrer will be true to the feature film.

So there's an added excitement there of introducing a neglected AB film through animation.Mr Bachchan's better known films. Barsaat…. I want to capture in animation form. In the meanwhile Mr Nandy speaks for the first time on his international project Karna.

With PNC, Yashraj Films, Karan Johar and Ajay Devgan doing animation, is that the flavour of the season? PNC won't only pay a homage to the Bengali mellow-dramatist but also to the immortal melodies of Sachin and his son Rahul Dev Burman in the cinema of Shakti Samanta. Pritish Nandy Communications(PNC) is about to make trendy spruce-up animation versions of three Samanta classics Howrah Bridge, Amar Prem and Barsaat Ki Ek Raat.

Says the company's prime mover, Pritish Nandy, "This is my homage to one of the most underrated filmmakers of the country. Howrah Bridge is one of my favourite noire films. The magic of Sachin Dev Burman's music, the chemistry between Ashok Kumar and Madhubala and the seductive charm of Ashok Kumar's baritone….

Says Mr Nandy, "I've chosen Howrah Bridge, Amar Premand Barsaat Ki Ek Raat because they not only represent three phases in Shakti Samanta's career but also three generations of superstars Ashok Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. The animation feature takes the characters forward.

Samanta, he was so pleased to know his films would reach out to a new generation. It's tie-up between PNC and a Hong Kong company. We'll be hearing the animation figures sing songs like 'Aaiye Meherbaan' in Howrah Bridge, 'Yeh Kya Hua' and 'Raina Beeti Jaaye' in Amar Prem and 'Apne Pyar Ke Sapne' in Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. We'll have a series of animation films based on the adventures of these two characters. When I met Mr.

Explains Mr Nandy, "We'll have the original music from these films.

Helen Mirren's porn film released after 30-yr ban

Although, it was subsequently released in the US, officials banned the film because of its gratuitous content.

A pornographic version of the 1970s Roman epic Caligula that has been banned in Britain for almost 30 years has finally been given the green light by censors.

The controversial Roman epic was scripted by the writer and historian Gore Vidal and featured a host of stars including Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole and Sir John Gielgud. The film was derided by many as "insanely pornographic".

So he secretly filmed graphic real sex scenes performed by porn stars and inserted them into the final edit.It was meant to be an historical drama, detailing the excesses of the third Roman emperor Caligula, whose rule from 37-41AD was dominated by violence and debauchery.

However, founder of pornographic magazine Penthouse, Bob Guccione, who produced and financed the film, felt it did not contain enough sex.The film received a short run in the US but was never shown in Britain, after being banned by the British Board of Film Classification.

Rock On's cast all keyed up for release

The beard adds so much to my character," says Purab.Director Abhishek Kapoor adds, "We have been so authentic about our presentation on the film and we have used that to tell the people that this is what you are going to get when you go to the theatre and that's what people want to see.

Frankly, after playing a mother of six on television, this wasn't tough.Holding a concert was a big deal because apart from it being the first time any movie has done a concert with the cast, it gave a great platform for us to interact directly with the audience of the movie.

While Prachi didn't mind being sidelined in the film, actor Purab Kohli who plays the drums for the Rock On group couldn't stop raving about his look in the movie. One will just have to wait till Friday for an answer to this one.

Now that I know very clearly what the truth is.I did my share on TV and now this is also an experience," says she. And I think if KD (his character) didn't have that look, the band wouldn't look that good.

It's always said that films are always male-dominated and on TV it's the female who is the protagonist. I too had my mind set on certain things. And we have done a couple of concerts.

Producer and actor, Farhan Akhtar says, "Making sure you are on TV, heard on radio, have a presence on the streets - things like that are important. Before we shot the film, there was a whole look test that they did and everyone had different ideas about the way they wanted to look.

The film also marks the debut of the television star Prachi Desai, who is only too happy to have quit the small screen. With their film ready to release this Friday, it's no wonder that the cast of Rock On is all keyed up in the final leg of their promotional appareances and there is no subtle marketing for this one.

So, will the band be able to drum up enough enthusiasm among the audiences when the film is released?

Or will it prove to be a swan song for some?

Reel ...Kinng Akshay becomes box-office king

UTV Motion Pictures has reportedly signed Akshay Kumar for a jaw-dropping figure of Rs 72 crore for a new project. For almost two decades the Khans have ruled over Bollywood's box-office. Akshay Kumar seems to be ruling over the box office as he skips the Rs 10 to Rs 20 crore fee bracket.

I can’t go into figures, but yes, I can say that we have signed Akshay Kumar for a film that will go on floors in the second half of 2009,” says Founder UTV Rampage, Ram Mirchandani. After Singh is Kinng, reports say that Akshay Kumar is being offered Rs 70 crore for a new project.

His last release Singh is Kinng has earned a record Rs 90 crore over the first week and is set to cross Om Shanti Om's highest collection of Rs 167crore in worldwide ticket sales. Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir started the trend of being paid in crores.

It seems that Bollywood is now following a simple rule by investing more because bigger the investment more the returns. And at the end of the day, that is all that matters.Meanwhile, the topmost position might go from Shah Rukh to Akshay to someone else in the future.

With a number of films such as Om Shanti Om, Welcome, Chak De India and Dhoom 2 having earned over a Rs 100 crore just at the box-office, the Bollywood revenue pie is getting bigger, and with expanding international markets the revenue projections might just make Akshay's new fee worth the while.

Akshay has left the Khans and Hrithik Roshan way behind when it comes to acting remunerations. It was only Hrithik Roshan, who could challenge the Khans clout for a short period after his debut in 20 However, now Akshay Kumar, who has been reinventing himself over the past few years, is emerging as the clear box office king.

But, the bottom line is if the actors are charging more money, producers are making much more and the industry is growing.

Singh Is Kinng goes to Toronto festival

TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) has started offering a slate of highly popular films along with the gritty and introspective art film recently, and shows at least one high profile Bollywood film. It centers on Vengadam, an optimist and weaver of saris, who at the birth of his daughter pledges to wrap her in the finest silk on the day of her wedding.

Mehta will show her first feature film Sam and Me (1991) at the festival, and will discuss how it helped to launch her career. But when his access to the silk is in danger, Vengadam becomes desperate to find a way to keep his promise.

The festival, which after Cannes and Berlin, has become a powerhouse for the sale of small and big films from across the globe will also show films directed by Deepa Mehta (Heaven on Earth) and Priyadarshan (Kanchivaram). The story is set one month after the violent events of 2002 came to an end," says Nandita, who has been working to get the project off the ground for over four years.

The story, which unfolds over 24 hours, 'explores the impact of violence on the human psyche, on relationships, and on one's ability to remain hopeful in the face of a horrendous tragedy.Last year's Oscar winners Ethan Coen and Joel Coen return with the comedy Burn After Reading starring George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins and Brad Pitt.

Giving up his preoccupation with comedies, Priyadarshan offers in Kanchivaram a heartfelt story of good intentions that could go wrong. But then one must also remember that Toronto has not only one of the most film loving communities in the world, and a significant number of them are people of South Asian origin.

The festival has always been dedicated to showcasing the best in films from Asia for our diverse Toronto audiences,' the festival's co-director Cameron Bailey said in a statement. If the promise is not fulfilled, people tell him, a curse will follow.

Mira Nair and Shekhar Kapur's short films, a part of the New York, I Love You omnibus are also being screened. Also showing is the two part opus Che by Stephen Soderbergh, the biopic of the revolutionary.

The 33rd edition of the festival will be held between September 4 and 13, and will screen 312 films. On the other end of the spectrum is Firaaq, Nandita Das' directorial debut that examines the psychological consequences of the 2002 Gujarat communal killings.

There are too many sloppy action sequences, the humour's too broad, the storytelling lackluster.Probing beyond the clichs of cross-cultural encounters, Mehta and writer Ranjit Chowdhry (who also plays Nikhil) bring to the screen a warm and complex relationship that bridges the ethnic communities from which each man comes,' the festival literature says.

The Akshay Kumar-starrer Singh Is Kinng -- which its distributors claim has grossed $25 million worldwide in 12 days -- will have a high profile release at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Bailey had programmed South Asian films at the festival for over five years. Her Oscar nominated Water, which went on to gross over $5 million in North America making it the highest grossing Hindi language film in the territory, was the opening film at the festival.

Singh Is Kinng isn't a great movie,' The New York Times wrote in its review.Apart from Akshay and Singh Is Kinng director Anees Bazme, the Indian contingent will include Priyadrashan and Nandita, and Preity Zinta, who plays a beleaguered immigrant wife in Heaven on Earth. Can I think of any other film festival that has invited as many Indian films year after year," she muses.

The little seen but well received film tells the story of Sam Cohen, a cranky older Jewish man and Nikhil, a young immigrant, who is hired to take care of him.But the immensely likable Mr Kumar shines as a Capraesque hero who spreads bedrock Indian values -- honour your mother, help the poor -- by example, most conspicuously as the accidental leader of a feared crime gang in Australia. The festival will feature movies from 64 countries.

Last year, it screened Rituparno Ghosh's The Last Lear, and before that, it screened Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. While Priyadarshan and Bazmee are represented at the festival for the first time, Deepa Mehta always had her films shown at TIFF.

Singh Is Kinng, which is expected to overtake the $35 million worldwide gross of Om Shanti Om in a few weeks, is one of the 11 gala presentations at TIFF.

With programmer Raymond Phathanavirangoon now selecting our films from Southeast Asia, TIFF has increased its focus on the vibrant film communities in these regions, paving the way for a significant presence of Asian cinema at this year's festival,' he added.

Desperate to keep his word, he steals a thread of silk each day, weaving secretly each night.TIFF sets off the annual Golden Globe and Oscar buzz screened, as well as finds distributors for smaller films.

Bigg Boss celebs get together to cheer up Jade

It was only the second episode of celebrity reality show Bigg Boss 2 and emotions are already running high. The only international participant, Jade Goody, has called it quits.

Day 1 of Bigg Boss 2 raised eyebrows with its diverse list of 14 particiapnts and day 2 raised concerns as international participant Jade Goody bid farewell to the show.

Jade's doctor broke the news to her that she was suffering from early stages of cervical cancer - a revelation that reduced Jade to tears.

The British national decided to part ways with the show, after she received some shocking news when she spoke to her doctor.

The 14 celebrity contestants have been living together for just 48 hours, but it clearly didn't take very long for them to come together in Jade's moment of adversity.

If the particiapnts concerns were anything to go by, then this time around, Jade has definitely left a better impression.

More comedy, fewer films at Toronto film fest

As many as 116 films will have their world premiere at the festival, as against 101 last year.Organisers have also trimmed the number of films to 312 this year, from 352 last year.

To take the film festival outdoors this year, the organisers have also announced free public performances and presentations by some of the artistes and entertainers featured in this year's films. The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which begins on September 3, will be a lighter affair this year in terms of film themes and their numbers.

Breaking away from the past practice of showcasing films with serious and political themes, the organisers announced that this year's films will have thrust on comedies and domestic issues.

Announcing the final lineups for various segments on Tuesday, they said the numbers have been pruned to make the festival manageable as there is no central place for screenings and accommodating viewers. The 312 films come from 64 countries. While in hospital, he falls in love with the beautiful and caring nurse Sarah.

Apart from being a great platform to showcase the very best in world cinema, the festival also offers a great business opportunity for securing distribution rights for movies. However, his life takes an interesting turn when his lover's brother David enlists to fight in Europe despite suffering from asthma.

Brad Pitt, Ed Harris, Keira Knightley and Ben Kingsley are some big Hollywood names among the 500 star and special invitees. These include 249 full-length feature films.

Festival co-director Cameron Bailey said the aim is to showcase more films with introspective themes - human relationships and family dramas, rather than heavy political themes. Michael too returns to the battlefield to join thousands of Canadians in the third battle of Ypres - commonly known as Passchendaele. Also, 61 filmmakers will make their directorial debut at the festival, which ranks with the Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals.

The film tells the story of soldier Michael Dunne who returns home to Calgary after being wounded - physically and emotionally - in action in France.Though the festival is focussing on lighter films, Canadian director Paul Gross' Passchendaele - which is on World War I - will open it.
